About Epithalon
Epithalon, also called epitalon in some publications, is a synthetic tetrapeptide associated with research on pineal signaling and cellular aging. A frequently cited laboratory study reported telomerase activity and telomere-length changes in cultured human fetal fibroblasts after exposure. That cell-culture result is not evidence that the compound extends human lifespan, and proposed mechanisms remain uncertain. Epithalon is investigational rather than an approved medicine.
At a glance
- Class
- Synthetic tetrapeptide, commonly described by the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly.
- Studied mechanism
- Proposed effects on gene expression and telomerase have been explored; a cellular mechanism is not established as a human longevity effect.
- Evidence context
- A primary study reported telomerase activity and telomere elongation in cultured human fetal fibroblasts, an in-vitro finding with uncertain relevance to people.
Blank arithmetic calculator
For independently verified inputs, concentration equals entered vial amount in mg divided by added liquid in mL. Entered requested mg divided by concentration gives mL; multiplying mL by the actual syringe markings per mL gives units. Enable JavaScript to use the calculator. This math does not establish that a compound is suitable for injection.
Common questions
What was the telomerase study of epithalon conducted in?
The reported telomerase activity and telomere elongation were observed in cultured human fetal fibroblasts. A cell-culture result cannot show that the compound lengthens telomeres or extends lifespan in people.
Does the cellular research establish epithalon as a human longevity treatment?
No. The laboratory finding is preliminary evidence about cells, not proof of a lifespan effect or established clinical benefit in humans.
